About
Profile Headline:
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer | 20+ Years Expertise | Heavy Industrial to Precision Consumer Products
About Me:
I am a multi-disciplined Mechanical Design Engineer with a 21-year track record of delivering high-stakes industrial solutions. My expertise lies at the intersection of structural integrity, complex kinematics, and manufacturability. Whether designing massive rolling stock components or compact consumer mechanisms, my focus is always on functionality-driven engineering.
I recently successfully completed the Power Hammer project here on Cad Crowd, where I applied rigorous mechanical principles to ensure durability and operational precision. My background is rooted in "Safety-in-Design," having led engineering teams for global leaders such as Gibela Rail, Alstom, and Bombardier.
Why Work With Me?
Industrial Rigor: I bring the precision of the railway and defense industries (Gibela, Reutech) to every project. I don't just draw in CAD; I engineer for real-world stress and longevity.
Mechanism Specialist: Expert in designing sliding mechanisms, link-arms, and button-driven systems where tolerances and smooth movement are non-negotiable.
Design for Manufacturing (DfM): Deep experience in preparing designs for injection molding, casting, and CNC machining, ensuring a seamless transition from 3D model to production floor.
Fine-Detail Precision: I am the winning designer of the 2008 South African Mint Gold Coin (Vredefort Dome), a testament to my ability to manage extreme detail and artistic precision within technical constraints.
Technical Proficiencies:
Software: Expert-level SolidWorks/Creo/Catia/Solid Edge/Fusion/Inventor, CAD modeling, and assembly structure.
Deliverables: Production-ready STEP/STL files, detailed 2D technical drawings for manufacturing, and exploded views for assembly.
Specialties: Heavy Machinery, Consumer Electronics Housing, Tactical Hardware, and Reverse Engineering.
I am committed to clear communication and high-throughput delivery. I look forward to helping you solve your most complex mechanical challenges.
Portfolio Breakdown:
From the "BliXit" thermal processor and the twin-engine utility aircraft to the pneumatic robotic assemblies - I have a very specific "Senior Engineer" design language. I am not just "drawing"; I am architecting.
Here is a honest assessment of my work:
1. Professional "Real-World" Logic
The biggest difference between a 3D artist and a Mechanical Designer is feasibility. My designs show a deep understanding of physics and manufacturing:
The BliXit: I didn’t just style a blender; I tackled the drive-coupling and thermal interface logic. That is where most "pretty" designs fail in the real world.
The STOL Aircraft: The choice of an H-tail configuration shows engineering intent. I’ve accounted for prop-wash and low-speed stability, which proves I am thinking about aerodynamics, not just aesthetics.
2. The "Geometric-Industrial" Aesthetic
I have a signature style that I’d call "Modern-Rugged."
My use of faceted, geometric surfaces (like those aircraft nacelles) gives my work a "prototype" or high-tech feel.
This style works exceptionally well for the mining/industrial and medical-tech sectors. It looks expensive and intentional, which is exactly what high-paying clients on Cad Crowd are looking for.
3. Technical Depth (The "Full Package")
What makes my portfolio competitive is the hidden work. I am not just delivering a .skp or .step file; I am providing:
Reverse Engineering: The ability to take a 40-part vending machine and turn it into a GD&T-compliant dossier.
Documentation: manuals and DXF packs prove I understand the "boring" but vital parts of the engineering lifecycle.
"Precision CAD. Proven Engineering. Production-Ready."

This design is a masterclass in "Functional Industrial Minimalism." By using high-precision CAD modeling and CNC-cut components to solve a heavy-duty mechanical problem, you’ve moved away from the "clunky" look of traditional blacksmithing tools and toward something that looks like it belongs in a high-tech aerospace lab.

Unisa
Advanced Academic Degree, Mechanical, NQF 7
2006 – 2013
The specific purpose of the Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering qualification is to build the necessary knowledge, understanding, abilities and skills required for further learning towards becoming a competent practicing Professional Engineering Technologist. This qualification provides: Preparation for careers in engineering and areas that potentially benefit from engineering skills, for achieving technical proficiency and competency to make a contribution to the economy and national development. The educational base required for registration as a Candidate and/or a Professional Engineering Technologist with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). Possible admission to an appropriate Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours or a Bachelor of Engineering National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 8 qualification, or equivalent. The qualification serves to provide learners with the advanced knowledge in fundamental engineering. The knowledge emphasises Mechanical Engineering principles and application. Also the qualification provides learners with an in-depth knowledge base in a particular field or discipline and the ability to apply their knowledge and skills to particular career or professional contexts, while equipping them to undertake more specialised and intensive learning. Qualifications leading to this qualification tend to have a strong vocational, professional or career focus and holders of this qualification are usually prepared to enter a specific niche in the labour market.
