My Outlook: Every product design project begins with a jumble of vague puzzle pieces. The pieces… market analysis, competitive analysis, price points, innovation, differentiation, aesthetics, concinnity, function, ergonomics, materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, assembly, packaging, shipping, users, manufacturers, costs, and the client. A myriad of considerations assemble into a design that makes your product unique, pertinent, targeted within its market, and profitable… a tangible object of desire and promise... a crisp image that makes sense. Every product wants to be something… to be desired and to realize its potential. I strive to stimulate that desire and optimize that potential… to solve the puzzle. My skill-set and experience is broad. I am a "sword for hire" for those that need swift and sharp technical mechanical design work completed and a guru for sustaining engineering. The majority of my experience is with lithium-ion battery design engineering, launch and ramp in large-scale manufacturing however I also have experience with forensic engineering and lithium-ion cell mechanical R&D. My most notable career-highlight is creating a global sustaining-engineering model and building a team-structure to execute thereto. I've done this twice, once for DeWalt's highest-volume lithium-ion battery product (>10 production lines in 3 factories globally) and again for Tesla's Model 3/Y legacy battery production (2 Giga-factories). I have made the most of every opportunity to study under expert craftsmen, inventors, product designers, doctors, and engineers to hone his ability to bring increasingly more complex new products to reality. This includes working with some of the foremost physicians tackling difficult challenges in current and next generation LVADs, artificial hearts, blood pumps, and other highly complex class III medical devices. Products I have designed and built are in Times Square, the Disney Parks, the Smithsonian, and implanted in people around the world. To date, I am named as inventor on a half dozen granted and pending patents, including core technologies in products for companies such as Baxa (now Baxter), Thoratec (now Abbott), and Covidien (now Abbott). I started my engineering training with a B.S. Engineering Degree, with a Mechanical Specialty from the Colorado School of Mines. I ontinue my education by working with many Industry & Trade Associations, University Programs, Business Groups and start-up Incubators. I also regularly attend major conferences, training programs, and other industry events in design and related fields including simulation & medical conferences specific to class III active implantable devices and blood pumps.
